WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The national spotlight will be shining brightly on the hilltop Saturday afternoon as the men's and women's basketball doubleheader between West Liberty and Fairmont State takes center stage on the NCAA Division II Basketball Showcase.
The women's game tips off at 1:35 p.m. with the men's game set for a 4:05 p.m. start.
Another capacity crowd is expected to jam its way into the ASRC and those lucky fans will have plenty of company following the rivalry on a multitude of local, regional and national broadcast and social media platforms.
The men's game will be aired live regionally on AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh with both games streaming live on WVMetroNews.com and MountainEast.tv.
Several NCAA social media accounts – Division II Twitter (@NCAADII), Division II Facebook (facebook.com/ncaadivisionii) and the Division II Periscope app (@NCAADII) – will also have live streams of both games as will the Facebook pages for West Liberty Athletics and Fairmont State Athletics.
Cox Sports TV, which boasts multiple broadcast affiliates in nearly 20 states from Rhode Island to California, has also signed on to carry tape-delay telecasts of both games on Sunday and Monday.
The NCAA Division II Basketball Showcase schedule features 14 of the 24 basketball-sponsoring conferences in Division II and is created from a pool of conference nominations. Saturday's games are among 18 chosen to be part of the Showcase's hybrid distribution model, giving them the flexibility to be distributed on television and online.
The NCAA selected a total of 24 games to be part of the Showcase and plans to add four more key doubleheaders to the schedule down the stretch to air as part of the package.
