KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The West Liberty University men's basketball team picked up another Top 10 ranking on Tuesday when the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) released its second weekly NCAA Division II Top 25 poll of the regular season.
Coach
Ben Howlett's Hilltoppers (4-1) checked in at No. 10 in this week's nationwide balloting, down one spot from their No. 9 ranking in the initial regular-season poll.
This marks the 128
th time West Liberty has been ranked among the nation's Top 10. That's fourth all-time since the poll's inception during the 1960-61 season behind Kentucky Wesleyan (258), Southern Indiana (151) and Virginia Union (150).
The Hilltoppers have been ranked in every NCAA Division II poll since Feb. 2, 2010. That 131-week streak is both the longest active streak and the longest all-time. Top-ranked Bellarmine (Ky.) has the second-longest active streak at 65 weeks.
Bellarmine once again received all 16 first-place votes with Northwest Missouri State, Indiana (Pa.), Saint Anselm (N.H.) and Southern Nazarene (Okla.) rounding out a top five that remained unchanged from a week ago. Valdosta State (Ga.) moved up to No. 6, followed by Cal Poly-Pomona, West Texas A&M, Findlay (Ohio) and West Liberty.
The Hilltoppers will be riding a four-game winning streak into Wednesday's home game against Urbana. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the ASRC.
