WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University wrestling team dropped a 32-6 decision to unbeaten and No. 17-ranked Wheeling Jesuit in dual meet action Thursday night at the ASRC.
With nationally-ranked wrestlers in each of the first three weight classes, the visiting Cardinals (5-0) were able to grab a quick 13-0 lead and Coach Mitch Smith's Hilltoppers (1-5) weren't able to sustain a comeback. Eric VandenBossche put West Liberty on the board when he edged Reyse Wallbrown, 9-8, in a crowd-pleasing 157-pound match. West Liberty heavyweight Tyler Dodd gave the home fans something to smile about in the final match of the night when he came up with a takedown in in the first sudden-victory period to take a 3-1 overtime decision against WJU's Corey Siegfried. The Hilltoppers will be idle over the weekend but hit the road on Monday for a 7 p.m. non-conference dual at Millersville (Pa.).
