BOX SCORE

VIENNA, W.Va. – West Liberty's unbeaten and No. 1-ranked Hilltoppers had no trouble extending their season-opening winning streak to 21 games here Monday night, coasting to a 102-81 victory against Ohio Valley University at the Snyder Athletic Center.

Coach Jim Crutchfield's defending West Virginia Conference champions have made more 3-point field goals than any other NCAA Division II squad this season and Monday night was no exception as West Liberty (21-0, 17-0) drained 17-of-41 shots from behind the arc to account for exactly half of its 102 points.

That put the Fighting Scots (5-15, 5-12) in a huge hole as the Hilltopper defense didn't give up a 3-point basket all night. Ohio Valley was 0-for-12 from behind the 3-point arc – the first time a WLU opponent had failed to make a 3-pointer in more than a decade.

West Liberty never trailed in the contest, pushing out to a double-digit lead midway through the opening half and stretching the margin to 53-33 by intermission.

The Fighting Scots never got the deficit under 20 points in the second half and trailed by as many as 31 points down the stretch.

Ohio Valley scored 15 of the game's last 20 points to make the final score a bit more respectable after Crutchfield cleared his bench with 6 minutes remaining.

Barry Shetzer led five double-figure scorers for the Hilltoppers with a season-high 29 points while Corey Pelle added 17 points.

Tim Hausfeld followed up his career-high 32-point game against Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday with a 16-point night in 19 minutes of action off the bench. Alex Falk added 15 points and John Wolosinczuk just missed a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Donavin Vinson paced the Fighting Scots with 24 points while Rodney Everage had a huge game with 20 points and 17 rebounds in a losing cause.

West Liberty returns home on Thursday night to host Pitt-Johnstown. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the ASRC.
