WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University athletic department celebrated the achievements of its student-athletes Tuesday evening at the third annual WESPY Awards inside the ASRC, honoring excellence across the 2025-26 academic year.
The night began with the Gold Carpet before transitioning into the awards ceremony, bringing together student-athletes, coaches, and staff for one of the department's premier traditions.
A historic season for West Liberty women's wrestling was front and center, as Cassia Zammit earned both Female Athlete of the Year and Female Newcomer of the Year. Zammit also took home the Women in Leadership Award and was recognized for the Female Play of the Year after becoming the program's first NCAA All-American.
On the men's side, Khyvon Grace of men's wrestling was named Male Athlete of the Year, while Myles Montgomery (men's basketball) earned Male Newcomer of the Year honors.
In the classroom, the men's golf team posted the highest GPA among men's programs with a 3.51, while softball led all women's teams with an impressive 3.71 GPA.

The Joseph A. Bartell Memorial Scholarship Award was presented to Adrie Staib (volleyball), Mason Bille (baseball), and Leah Delaney (women's track & field).
The night's highest character and leadership honors, the Jack Adams True Topper Awards, went to Dante Spadafora (men's basketball) and Grace Hill (volleyball).
Now in its third year, the WESPY Awards continue to grow as a signature celebration for West Liberty athletics, recognizing not only athletic excellence but also leadership, academic success, and community impact.
From record-breaking performances to defining moments on the biggest stages, the evening showcased the very best of what it means to be a Hilltopper, capping off a memorable 2025-26 season for the Black and Gold.
