West Liberty Athletics Continues Classroom Success with 16th Straight 3.0 Semester

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University Athletic Department continued its strong tradition of academic excellence during the Spring 2026 semester, posting a department-wide grade point average of 3.33.

The spring semester marked the 16th consecutive semester that Hilltopper student-athletes have combined for an overall GPA of 3.00 or higher. A total of 106 student-athletes earned perfect 4.0 GPAs during the semester, while 313 Hilltoppers finished with GPAs of 3.0 or better. Additionally, every West Liberty athletic program posted a team GPA above the 3.00 mark during the semester.

Women's cross country led all programs with a department-best 3.74 GPA, followed closely by women's golf (3.69), women's soccer (3.65), women's tennis (3.65), and softball (3.63). Women's volleyball also posted an impressive 3.60 team GPA, while women's track & field recorded a 3.58 mark.

On the men's side, men's soccer paced the programs with a 3.43 GPA, followed by wrestling (3.24) and men's basketball (3.19). Men's golf, baseball, tennis, football, and men's track & field all posted team GPAs above the 3.00 benchmark.

Women's track & field led all programs with 14 student-athletes earning 4.0 GPAs and 32 student-athletes recording GPAs of 3.0 or higher. Football topped the men's programs with 33 student-athletes earning GPAs above 3.0, while men's soccer added 27 and wrestling totaled 26.

The continued academic success reflects the commitment of West Liberty student-athletes, coaches, and support staff to excellence both in competition and in the classroom.
