INSTITUTE, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's basketball team hits the road Wednesday evening for a Mountain East Conference matchup at West Virginia State. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the Walker Convocation Center.
The Hilltoppers enter the contest at 5-13 overall and 2-9 in MEC play, while the Yellow Jackets sit at 7-10 overall and 4-7 in conference action.
West Liberty continues to lean on a balanced offensive attack, averaging 72.1 points per game, which ranks fifth in the MEC. The Hilltoppers have been especially effective from beyond the arc, knocking down 7.6 three-pointers per game, the second-highest mark in the conference.
Senior guard Anna Lucarelli leads the Black and Gold at 15.3 points per game, adding 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest. Olivia Baker (13.1 ppg) provides a consistent perimeter scoring threat, shooting better than 37 percent from three-point range, while Ana-Isabel Andersson (10.1 ppg) and Jameka Brungard (9.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg) round out a productive core. Since entering the lineup following an injury Reagan Vinskovich has scored in double figures in five of her six games. She is averaging 16.5 ppg. and 7.2 rpg.
West Virginia State averages 70.0 points per game and is one of the league's stronger rebounding teams, pulling down 40.1 rebounds per contest. Baylee Goins paces the Yellow Jackets at 14.9 points per game, with Ahjanae Young (11.6 ppg) and Imani Hickman (11.1 ppg, 6.5 rpg) providing additional scoring and presence inside.
Earlier this season, West Liberty dropped a narrow 77-74 decision to the Yellow Jackets at the ASRC on Jan. 19. Despite the setback, the Hilltoppers hold a 44-21 advantage in the all-time series.
