WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The 19th-ranked West Liberty University men's basketball team returns to the ASRC on Monday night to continue Mountain East Conference play, hosting West Virginia State in a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
West Liberty enters the matchup riding momentum at 12-3 overall and 7-1 in MEC action, coming off a dominant 102-70 road win at Concord. The Hilltoppers have won two straight and remain unbeaten at home this season with an 8-0 record inside the ASRC.
The Hilltoppers continue to pace the Mountain East Conference offensively, averaging a league-best 96.9 points per game, while owning the second-best scoring margin (+16.1). West Liberty shoots 49.1 percent from the floor, ranks among the league leaders with 10.0 three-pointers per game, and leads the MEC in steals (13.3 per game) and turnover margin (+9.9).
A balanced lineup has powered the Hilltoppers' success, with nine players averaging at least 7.0 points per game. Jamie Muldowney leads the team at 13.5 points per game, Cameron Williams adds 10.5 ppg, Dante Spadafora chips in 10.1 ppg, while Myles Montgomery, Peter Lattos, and Landon Butler all average between 8.7 and 9.5 points.
Lattos continues to be one of the most efficient players in the conference, shooting 65.2 percent from the field, while Aiden Davis has emerged as a perimeter threat, connecting on 50.0 percent from three-point range.
West Virginia State enters Monday's contest at 5-10 overall and 2-6 in league play. The Yellow Jackets average 81.0 points per game and are led by Ishmael Smith (16.4 ppg) and Trey Harris (13.6 ppg). WVSU ranks among the league leaders in rebounding (38.1 per game) and blocked shots (4.5 per game).
Despite the contrast in records, the series has traditionally produced competitive games. West Liberty holds a 59-52 all-time advantage in the series and has won six of the last seven meetings.
