WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The No.19 West Liberty University men's basketball team returns home Wednesday night to host Mountain East Conference foe Glenville State in a 7:30 p.m. tipoff at the ASRC.
The Hilltoppers enter the matchup at 10-3 overall and 5-1 in MEC play, after suffering their first conference loss of the season Saturday 99-89 at Fairmont State, currently tied for second in the league standings. Glenville State comes to West Liberty at 9-5 overall and 4-3 in conference action, riding a five-game winning streak.
West Liberty leads the MEC in scoring offense, averaging 96.7 points per game, while also owning the league's top scoring margin (+15.3). The Hilltoppers shoot 48.8 percent from the field, rank second in the conference in field-goal percentage, and are fourth in the league in 3-point field goals made (10.1 per game).
Ball pressure and efficiency remain hallmarks of the Hilltopper attack. West Liberty leads the MEC in steals (13.2 per game), forces 22.5 turnovers per contest, and tops the league in turnover margin (+10.0) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.46). The Hilltoppers also average 27.6 points off turnovers, the highest mark in the conference.
Offensively, West Liberty features one of the deepest lineups in the region, with eight players averaging at least 7.0 points per game.
Glenville State ranks fourth in the MEC in scoring at 87.4 points per game and is the league's most prolific 3-point shooting team, averaging 11.7 made triples per contest while shooting 37.6 percent from beyond the arc. The Pioneers are led by Jalen Knott (18.4 ppg), Elijah Redfern (16.9 ppg) and Prince Mosengo (13.1 ppg), with Mosengo also pulling down nearly 10 rebounds per game.
Wednesday's contest features two of the MEC's most efficient offenses, as West Liberty ranks first and Glenville State fourth in scoring, while both teams sit among the league leaders in assists.
West Liberty holds an 82-71 advantage in the all-time series and has won 19 of the last 20 meetings, including a pair of victories last season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the ASRC.
