WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – For any offense to click, it all starts up front, and West Liberty enters the 2025 season with a solid foundation — three returning starters anchoring the offensive line.
At left tackle, redshirt sophomore Isaac Tavo is poised to be one of the most dominant linemen to ever suit up for the Hilltoppers — if he can avoid the injury bug. A gifted all-around athlete, Tavo earned NCAA All-American honors in track and field last spring, placing fourth in the discus at nationals, while also winning the MEC shot put title.
Junior Mason Fraley returns as a three-year starter at center, handling line calls and serving as a steady leader in the trenches. Head coach Roger Waialae says Fraley's experience and decision-making make him a cornerstone of the offense.
At right guard, Curtis Hayes is back for his third straight season as a starter, bringing consistency and toughness to the unit.
While the Hilltoppers must replace both their left guard and right tackle from last season, Waialae is confident the talent is in place to fill those spots. Right tackle, in particular, will be a focus during preseason camp.
Three veterans already in the system — redshirt freshman Riley Plottner, Dequan Cobb, and junior Ethan Petaia — are expected to push for starting roles. Junior Kemper Longwell offers valuable versatility, able to play either guard or tackle, while junior transfer Jeffrey McCoy and redshirt sophomore Nathan Everly bring size and experience to the mix.
Additional depth comes from freshman Brandon McBride, redshirt freshman Dennis Pike (a center option with previous experience), freshman Anthony Coreas, and redshirt sophomore Michael VanMatre, who also has seen game action.
With proven leaders and a healthy competition for open spots, Waialae believes this offensive line has the potential to become a strong unit in 2025.
The Hilltoppers open the season August 28 at Walsh University, the home opener is September 6th against Seton Hill University at 1 p.m. at West Family Stadium.
