ERIE, Pa. – West Liberty University's Brogan Bennett is tied for seventh place after the opening round of the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional, held at Whispering Woods Golf Club in Erie, Pa.
Bennett carded a one-over-par 73 in Thursday's first round, highlighted by one birdie, 15 pars, and just two bogeys. He sits five shots off the lead behind Davis & Elkins' Aiden Talent, who fired a four-under 68. Talent also won the regional preview event at the same course two weeks ago.
As a team, the Hilltoppers posted a combined score of 323 (+35), putting them in a tie for 16th place heading into round two.
Justin Doerr led the supporting cast with an 80, followed by Noah Seivertson (84), and both Jayson Buckner and Ethan Cook with 86s.
Davis & Elkins holds the team lead after day one with a six-over-par 294.
The Hilltoppers return to action for round two on Friday, with tee times beginning at 11:40 a.m.
