West Liberty, W.Va. – Isaac Tavo capped off a historic redshirt freshman campaign with a stellar performance at the NCAA National Championship, placing fourth in the discus throw at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado.
Tavo launched a throw of 55.92 meters, shattering his own school record of 54.56 meters set just two weeks earlier at the WVU Last Chance Meet on May 10. His consistent progression this season also included a previous record-breaking toss of 51.37 meters at the Marty Goldberg Gator Invite.
With his top-four finish, Tavo earned All-American honors, becoming one of the most decorated first-year athletes in program history.
"I was happy to move up 12 spots in the DII rankings with a 1.42-meter improvement, placing fourth with a 55.92m PR," Tavo said. "I am very excited to get back to it next season!"
Head Coach Jason Falvo praised Tavo's performance and work ethic: "What a great day for our program! I am so proud of what Isaac has accomplished this season. A fourth-place finish in his first NCAA National Championships as a redshirt freshman is amazing. He's only scratching the surface of his potential in the discus. I can't wait to see what's next for him."
His record-breaking performance in Pueblo is not only a personal milestone, but a proud moment in Hilltopper track and field history.
