WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's and women's tennis teams are set to return to competition this weekend. The Hilltoppers will travel to Salem on Friday for a 3 p.m. matchup before facing West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday at 1 p.m. at McGuffey High School in Claysville, Pa.
The women's team enters the weekend on a high note after a hard-fought 4-3 victory at Frostburg State, improving to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play. No. 1 singles standout Evelina Martirosyan continued her dominant season, extending her unbeaten streak to 9-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Alyssa Kush. Omolade Aderemi also added to her stellar campaign, improving to 8-1 in No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Patricia Castejohn. The duo also teamed up for a victory in No. 1 doubles.
Salem's women's team enters Friday's match at 9-4 after having its six-match win streak snapped in a 7-0 loss to the University of Charleston on Wednesday.
On the men's side, the Hilltoppers (1-7, 0-2 MEC) look to bounce back after a 7-0 setback at Frostburg State on Tuesday. Salem's men's team (2-8) has dropped back-to-back matches, including a 7-0 defeat to Charleston on Wednesday.
