WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's basketball team fought hard but came up short in a 61-53 Mountain East Conference loss to West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday at the ASRC.
The Hilltoppers (8-14, 6-9 MEC) fell behind 22-13 after the first quarter and struggled offensively in the second, managing just five points as the Bobcats (15-5, 10-4 MEC) took a 34-18 halftime lead.
However, WLU came out strong in the second half, outscoring WVWC 20-11 in the third quarter to trim the deficit to 45-38. A Jenna Riccardo layup cut the margin to five, 47-42, with 8:09 left in the fourth, but a quick 5-0 Bobcat run extended the lead back to double digits, and the Toppers were unable to complete the comeback.
