WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's basketball team came up short in a competitive Mountain East Conference matchup Wednesday night, falling to Frostburg State, 87-79, inside the ASRC.
The loss drops WLU to 8-15 overall and 6-10 in the MEC, while Frostburg State improves to 14-9 (9-7 MEC).
Game Recap
The game started evenly, with both teams knotted at 15-15 after the first quarter. Bailee Smith drained a three-pointer early in the second, giving WLU an 18-15 lead, but the Bobcats responded with a 12-0 run to take control at 27-18. West Liberty battled back, trimming the deficit to seven at halftime, 36-29.
The third quarter belonged to the Hilltoppers, as they outscored Frostburg 25-19 and took a 57-55 lead into the final frame.
In the fourth, the teams traded baskets in a back-and-forth battle. A clutch three-pointer from Karli Anker, who hit five triples in the game, pulled WLU within four points (81-77) with just :45 seconds remaining. However, the Bobcats sealed the game at the free-throw line, converting 21-of-23 attempts.
