West Liberty, W.Va. - The West Liberty University men's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season when it travels to Richmond on Tuesday to take on Virginia Union. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
The Hilltoppers enter the matchup at 2–0 after a successful opening weekend at the Atlantic Region Crossover. West Liberty opened the Mike Lamberti era with a 102–91 win over Clarion on Friday before following it up with an 84–67 victory over California (Pa.) on Saturday.
Through two games, West Liberty is averaging 93.0 points per contest while shooting 46.9 percent from the field and knocking down 12 threes per game. The Hilltoppers have also forced 41 turnovers and own a +9.5 turnover margin, leading to 42 combined points off giveaways. Jamie Muldowney leads the team at 20.0 points per game after back-to-back standout performances, while the WLU bench has contributed 75 points across the two wins.
Virginia Union enters Tuesday at 1–1 after splitting a pair of games at the Millersville Classic. The Panthers fell to Millersville on Friday but bounced back with a 75–51 win over Mansfield. VUU is averaging 70.5 points per game while holding opponents to 66.5 and is shooting 47 percent from the field. The Panthers have also been active defensively, averaging 10.5 steals and 6.0 blocks per game.
West Liberty and Virginia Union met last November at the ASRC, with the Hilltoppers earning an 84–71 win.
Following their road trip Tuesday the Hilltoppers return home to host Shepherd Saturday at 4 p.m. at the ASRC.
