WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's soccer team returns home to the West Family Athletic Complex on Wednesday for a Mountain East Conference matchup against Davis & Elkins. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Hilltoppers (1-10, 0-8 MEC) are looking to regroup after a competitive 3-2 road loss at West Virginia State on Sunday. Senior Maya Taggart recorded her first brace of the season, scoring both goals for the Black and Gold, while Perla Bäckberg and Corinne Westbrook each added assists.
Bäckberg continues to pace the WLU attack with four goals and nine points, followed by Taggart with two goals and two assists. Holly Brighton has also been a steady playmaker in the midfield with four points on a goal and two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Cianna Butera leads the conference with 85 saves this season, averaging 7.7 per match.
West Liberty enters the contest averaging 9.5 shots per game, with eight different Hilltoppers recording at least one goal this season.
Davis & Elkins (1-6-4, 1-5-3 MEC) comes into Wednesday's match following a 2-0 home win over Salem. The Senators are led by Sophia Brown with three goals and an assist, while Addyson Cogar has added two goals and a game-winner. In goal, Gabriela Acevedo has started nine matches and owns a .750 save percentage with three shutouts.
West Liberty has won the last two meetings in the series, including a 4-2 road victory last season in Elkins and a 2-0 home win in 2023.
