ATHENS, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's soccer team will look to build on the momentum from a big midweek win when it travels to Concord University on Saturday for a 1 p.m. Mountain East Conference matchup at the Paul Cline Complex in Beckley.
The Hilltoppers (2-10, 1-8 MEC) are coming off a 1-0 victory over Davis & Elkins on Wednesday — their first conference win of the season. Freshman forward Perla Bäckberg delivered the game-winner in the 74th minute, assisted by Marisa Knouff, while goalkeeper Cianna Butera posted six saves to earn her second shutout of the year.
Bäckberg continues to lead the WLU attack with five goals, two assists, and a pair of game-winners, while Maya Taggart, Holly Brighton, and Emma Lieu have all been key contributors in the midfield.
The Hilltoppers will face a strong Concord (6-4-2, 5-2-2 MEC) side that enters the weekend second in the South Division standings. The Mountain Lions are led by Tiana Campbell with seven goals and Caitlin Webster with three goals and four assists.
West Liberty returns home next Wednesday, Oct. 22, to host Frostburg State at the West Family Athletic Complex.
