Pittsburgh, Pa. – The West Liberty University women's basketball team snapped a five-game losing streak Thursday night with a 68-56 win over Point Park University in Pittsburgh.
Trailing 39-38 with 5:38 remaining in the third quarter, head coach Kyle Cooper made a bold move, substituting the entire lineup. One of the five players brought in was junior Hope Bowman, who had only played one minute all season and was yet to score. Bowman quickly made her presence felt, scoring seven of West Liberty's next nine points over a four-minute span to reclaim the lead for the Hilltoppers.
West Liberty closed the third quarter with a 52-42 advantage and never trailed again.
The Hilltoppers held a slim 35-33 lead at halftime before their decisive second-half surge.
Anna Lucarelli paced West Liberty with a double-double, tallying 14 points and 12 rebounds. Jenna Riccardo chipped in 12 points, while Bailee Smith and Halley Smith added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The victory secured a season sweep of Point Park for the Hilltoppers, extending their unbeaten streak against the Pioneers to 6-0 all-time.
Up next West Liberty will face county rival Wheeling Saturday at 2 p.m at the McDonough Center.
