Wheeling, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's basketball team came up short on the road Saturday, dropping a 67-51 decision to Wheeling University in Mountain East Conference action at the McDonough Center.
The game was tightly contested through the first half. After finishing the first quarter tied at 12, the Hilltoppers entered halftime trailing by just two, 30-28.
The third quarter proved pivotal as the Cardinals outscored West Liberty 15-9, building an eight-point lead at 45-37 heading into the final frame. Wheeling extended their advantage to 12 early in the fourth quarter, and although the Hilltoppers managed to cut the deficit to seven on a couple of occasions, they were unable to complete the comeback.
