Slippery Rock, Pa. – The West Liberty University men's and women's track & Field teams earned a total of 15 top-10 finishes and five top-5 finishes on Thursday afternoon at the John Papa Invitation hosted by Slippery Rock University. Highlighting the day for the Hilltoppers was
Kennedy Martin who won the women's discus throw and tallied a second top-10 result in the shot put. On the men's side,
John Brown was the highest finishing athlete with a third place and career-best mark in the hammer throw, while
Lorenzo Ferrera notched a pair of top-10 finishes and career-best times in the 100m and 200m dashes.

HOW IT HAPPENED – WLU MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
- After a career-best time of 10.93 in the prelims, Lorenzo Ferrera recorded a fourth place finish in the 100m dash as he ran to a time of 10.98.
- Ferrera then turned in his second top-10 finish and career-best time of the day as he clocked a time of 21.99 in the 200m dash for sixth place.
- A pair of Hilltoppers earned a top-10 finish in the high jump as Daminn Cunningham and Ethan Furbee recorded seventh and ninth place finishes. Cunningham cleared a mark of 1.78 (5' 10") while Furbee recorded a mark of 1.83m (6' 0").
- In the discus throw, Jordyn Dickerson turned in a ninth place finish with a throw of 42.41m (139' 2"), while Mason Fraley was 21st with a throw of 35.79m (117' 5").
- John Brown notched a third place finish in the hammer throw with a career-best mark of 49.62m (162' 10") while Joshua Fancher rounded out the top-10 with a distance of 44.10m (144' 8"). Also competing in the event was Fraley and Jordyn Dickerson who were 18th and 23rd with marks of 37.91m (124' 5") and 27.00m (88' 7") respectively.
- Fancher collected his second top-10 finish of the day with a ninth place throw in the shot put with a distance of 14.69m (48' 2.25").Â
HOW IT HAPPENED – WLU WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
- Madison Cadle and Abbe Stackpole just missed the finals of the 100m dash, as they crossed the finish line in ninth and tenth place with times of 12.80 and 12.81 respectively.
- Cadle and Stackpole were the lone Hilltoppers to compete in the 200m dash, crossing the finish line 12th and 15th with times of 26.17 and 26.29 respectively.
- The Black & Gold took three of the top four places in the discus, led by Kennedy Martin with a throw of 42.23m (138' 7") to win the event. With a mark of 39.21m (128' 8"), Adriana Fazzini finished third, while Sierra Davis rounded out the group in fourth place with a mark of 38.67m (126' 10"). Also competing in the event for WLU was Kaylee Savage who recorded a 21st place finish with a throw of 30.94m (101' 6").
- Davis led a trio of WLU throwers in the hammer throw as she rounded out the top-10 with a throw of 39.53m (129' 8"). Also competing in the event was Savage, who finished 12th with a mark of 38.48m (126' 3"), and Fazzini, who recorded a 15th place throw of 37.19m (122' 0").
- Martin earned her second top-10 finish of the day with a seventh place finish in the shot put, recording a distance of 12.08m (39' 7.5"). Davis and Savage rounded out the WLU athletes in the event with a 16th and 19th place finish respectively, notching marks of 10.98m (36' 0.25") and 10.63m (34' 10.5").

The West Liberty University men's and women's track & field teams will have athletes in action at the Benson/Hodge Memorial Invitational (Robert Morris) and the Jesse Owens Classic (Ohio State) on Friday. At RMU in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the meet will get underway at 11 a.m. with the field events, while the track events begin at 1:30 p.m. at the P3R Track & Field Complex. At OSU in Columbus, Ohio, the meet will begin at 12 p.m. with the field events, while the track events start at 4:30 p.m. at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
