WLU Track & Field Sends Group to Fastrack Last Chance Meet

West Liberty, W.Va. – After a pair of top-5 finishes at last week's MEC Championships, the West Liberty men's and women's track & field teams will send a group of four to the Fastrack Last Chance Meet to try one last time to reach NCAA Provisional marks prior to the national championships. The group of Reese Burnside, Mikhi Anderson, Sierra Lanham, and Ky'Ara Ross are set to compete at 1 p.m. at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York, on Friday, February 23.

WEST LIBERTY MEN'S TRACK & FIELD STORYLINES
  • In their last outing a week ago, the West Liberty men's track & field team finished third at the MEC Championships, totaling 97.50 points as Mikhi Anderson won the high jump and others totaled six more all-conference accolades (top-3 finishes).
  • The WLU has broken five school records this season, including Mikhi Anderson in the 60m hurdles (8.00) and the high jump (2.03m (6' 7.75")), Hunter Patterson in the 60m (6.87) and 200m dash (21.88), and Reese Burnside in the pole vault (4.80m (15' 9")). The team of Patterson, Lorenzo Ferrera, Nathan Baker, and Arthur Williams broke the 4x200 relay record with a time of 1:31.03. Anderson and Burnside's school records in the 60m hurdles, high jump and pole vault have also hit NCAA Division II Provisional marks.
  • Anderson has posted times of 7.06 in the 60m dash, 8.00 in the 60m hurdles, and a mark of 2.03m (6' 7.75") in the high jump. He ranks first in the MEC in the high jump, second in the 60m hurdles, and 16th in the 60m dash, while also ranking 23rd nationally in the 60m hurdles and 50th in the high jump.
  • Burnside has posted a career-best indoor pole vault mark of 4.80m (15' 9") to win the Muskie Meet #1, ranking him second in the MEC and 47th nationally.
  • Jason Falvo is in his first season as the head coach at West Liberty and his 15th season as a collegiate head coach in track & field. 
WEST LIBERTY WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD STORYLINES
  • In their last outing a week ago, the West Liberty women's track & field team finished fifth at the MEC Championships, totaling 45 points as Ky'Ara Ross won the long jump while Sierra Lanham (long jump) and Kennedy Martin (shot put) added all-conference honors (top-3 finishes).
  • The West Liberty women's track & field team has broken eight school records this season, which includes Ross in the 60m dash (7.85) and the long jump (5.63m (18' 5.75")), Sierra Lanham in the 200m dash (25.78), Brookelyn Reynolds in the 500m run (1:26.50), and Kennedy Martin in the shot put (12.50m (41' 0.25")). Lacey Dimit tied the school record time in the 800m run (2:22.67). The team of Lanham, Ross, Abbe Stackpole, and Reynolds broke the 4x200 relay record with a time of 1:49.57 and the team of Reynolds, Dimit, Stackpole, and Lanham broke the 4x400 relay record with a time of 4:09.82.
  • Ross has posted times of 7.85 in the 60m dash, 26.14 in the 200m dash, and a mark of 5.63m (18' 5.75") in the long jump. She ranks first in the MEC in the long jump, eighth in the 60m dash, and 15th in the 200m dash.
  • Lanham has posted times of 7.88 in the 60m dash, 25.78 in the 200m dash, and a mark of 5.56m (18' 3") in the long jump. She ranks second in the MEC in the long jump, ninth in the 200m dash, and 11th in the 60m dash.
  • Jason Falvo is in his first season as the head coach at West Liberty and his 15th season as a collegiate head coach in track & field.
