YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Sophomore
Olivia Combs cleared 3.20m in pole vault, tying the school record, and junior
Maggie Kovalcik reset her own 400m record on Friday to lead the West Liberty University women's track and field team at the YSU Collegiate Invitational.
Combs tied
Olivia Miller and
Mackenzie Rine for the school record. Miller set it in February of 2022 and Rine tied it in the first meet of this season in December. The sophomore from Nashport, Ohio leaped over 3.05m in her first attempt then tied the school record, at 3.20m, in her second try.
Kovalcik beat her school record, that she set in the season opener, by 0.5 seconds with a 1:00.86 in the 400m race.
Hailey Carreon qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles posting a 9.35 prelim time, then ran a 9.22 in the finals to finish in seventh. Carreon also led the team in the 200m race with a 27.43.
Hannah Kemp and
Shania Keene both PR'd in the 800m with a 2:27.28 and 2:37.16, respectively. Kemp was back at it in the 3000m race clocking in at 10:48.58 to finish 20th.
Ally Hicks ran a 6:20.89 as the only competitor in the mile race for the Hilltoppers.
Jailah Walker highlighted the jumpers placing 11th in the high jump with a clear of 1.55m on her second try. Kovalcik led the long jumpers with a 5.34m leap, while
Sierra Lanham notched a career-best 5.04m.
In the throws,
Kennedy Martin led the way with an 11.58m shot put coming in 16th place.
Jaeda Nowak (10.44m),
Sydney Jefferys (10.28m), and
Emma Haley (7.85m) all had their best shot puts of the season. Jefferys paced the team in weight throw with a 13.46m, while
Katherine Hill (11.64m) and
Grace Brockmeier (10.24m) both threw personal bests.
West Liberty will be back in Youngstown next weekend for the YSU College Mid Major on January 27 and 28.
