WASHINGTON, Pa. - The West Liberty University men's tennis team went on the road and defeated Washington and Jefferson, 7-2, with a shorthanded roster this afternoon at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
This was the first team event of the fall season for WLU after a pair of individual tournaments in Bloomsburg.
Gianluca Gerndt and
Nevio Dux got the day started with an 8-0 clean sweep of the opponents in doubles #1.
Alfonso Zerpa and
Derek Roehner teamed up for an 8-1 victory in the second doubles spot.
In singles play, West Liberty dominated with four double bagel (6-0, 6-0) wins by Dux, Roehner, Zerpa and
Zarion Jones. Gerndt downed W&J's top opponent 6-0 and 6-4 in singles #1.
The shorthanded 'Toppers had to default the final doubles and singles matches, resulting in the only wins for the Presidents.
West Liberty will be back on the court next weekend at the Ashland Invite starting on Friday.
