HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season late Monday night, dropping a 4-0 decision to Lewis (Ill.) in a match stopped by darkness on the Hilton Head courts.
Emma Arnal and
Daria Shchoma got Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (2-1) off to a good start with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles but the Flyers (5-3) took the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to come away with the doubles point.
With darkness rapidly approaching, Lewis notched straight-set victories at No. 3, 4, and 5 singles to earn the win with the other three singles matches stopped in progress. West Liberty's
Evelina Martirosyan held a 5-4 lead in her No. 2 singles match when play was halted.
The Hilltoppers look to rebound on Tuesday when they continue their Hilton Head Spring Break Tournament run against the University of Tampa.
