WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's and women's tennis teams return to action this weekend with a two-match slate, beginning Friday at Franciscan before hosting Fairmont State in a Mountain East Conference matchup on Saturday.
The Hilltoppers travel to Steubenville, Ohio on Friday for a 4 p.m. non-conference match against Franciscan at Belleview Park. West Liberty then returns home to host Fairmont State on Saturday at noon at McGuffey High School in Claysville, Pa.
West Liberty enters the weekend looking to bounce back following a challenging stretch against Salem and West Virginia Wesleyan.
The Hilltopper women's squad continues to gain valuable experience against strong competition. Maria Martirosyan and Ana Sánchez have led the lineup at the top spots, consistently competing in both doubles and singles play.
Sánchez delivered one of the team's top performances last weekend, pushing her No. 2 singles match to a super tiebreak, while Sanchita Dabas added a competitive showing at No. 3 singles against West Virginia Wesleyan.
With a young roster continuing to develop, the Hilltoppers will look to translate that experience into results this weekend.
On the men's side, West Liberty will look to regroup after facing two tough opponents. Pablo Zubieta continues to anchor the lineup at No. 1 singles, while Ethan Shepard turned in a strong effort at No. 3 singles with competitive sets.
Ignacio Giurfa, Austin Zgurski, Chris Burns, and Aidan Lucas round out a lineup that continues to build depth and experience.
Improvement in doubles play will be a key focus, as earning the doubles point could play a major role in both matches this weekend.
