West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team faced a challenging weekend on the road, falling to Salem University and West Virginia Wesleyan in a pair of Mountain East Conference matchups.
Saturday: Salem 7, West Liberty 0
West Liberty opened the weekend against Salem on Saturday, with the Tigers claiming the doubles point and carrying that momentum into singles play.
The Hilltoppers' top doubles team of Maria Martirosyan and Ana Sánchez battled but fell 6-2, while the duo of Courtney Curnutte and Sanchita Dabas dropped a 6-0 decision. Gabrielle Pasco and Elle Monaco rounded out doubles play with a 6-1 setback.
In singles action, Martirosyan competed at No. 1, falling 6-2, 6-2. Sánchez turned in one of the most competitive matches of the day at No. 2, pushing to a super tiebreak before coming up just short, 6-2, 2-6, 10-8. Dabas, Curnutte, Pasco, and Monaco each continued the lineup effort, but Salem completed the sweep in straight sets across the remaining courts.
Sunday: West Virginia Wesleyan 7, West Liberty 0
The Hilltoppers returned to the court Sunday against West Virginia Wesleyan, where the Bobcats again secured the doubles point with wins at all three positions.
Martirosyan and Sánchez dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 1 doubles, while Curnutte and Dabas fell 6-2 at No. 2. Pasco and Monaco were defeated 6-0 in the third flight.
In singles play, Martirosyan faced a tough challenge at the top spot, falling 6-1, 6-2. Sánchez and Dabas each won multiple games in their matches at No. 2 and No. 3, with Dabas posting a competitive 6-2, 6-3 result. Curnutte, Pasco, and Monaco rounded out the lineup as the Bobcats secured the 7-0 win.
