Butler Earns MEC Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - West Liberty's Bryce Butler has been named the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week after a standout week to help keep the Hilltoppers unbeaten on the season.

Butler was the leading scorer in both wins this week, averaging 29 points a game to bring his season average up to a conference-leading 23.4. The junior guard poured in 19 of his game-high 33 points in the second half capped off by the biggest bucket of all in the final seconds on Saturday night. All tied at 89, the 'Toppers came out of timeout and set up an isolation for Butler, he drove in and banked home the game-winner with five seconds left to lift #4 West Liberty over previously unbeaten and 21st ranked West Virginia State. In addition to his 33 points, he ended with six rebounds, three assists, two steals, a block, and no turnovers.

The Latrobe, Pa. native posted his third double-double of the season with 25 points and 10 rebounds in the midweek win at Charleston.

The MEC Weekly Awards are presented by the Health Plan. This is Butler's second MEC Player of the Week honor this season.

Butler and the Hilltoppers are set to back their bags and head west for the weekend to compete in the DII Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas. The Black and Gold will play Saturday at 8:30 pm est against Lubbock Christian, then at 11:00 pm est on Sunday versus Missouri S&T.
