INDIANA, Pa. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Indiana (Pa.) here Tuesday in a battle of regionally-ranked squads at the Maple Street Courts.
Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (6-5), No. 5 in the Atlantic Region entering the day, fell behind early when the No. 2-ranked Crimson Hawks (12-3) swept the three doubles matches and were unable to fight their way back in singles play.
Nathalia Valencia earned West Liberty's only points with a straight-set win against IUP's Idoia Huerta at No. 2 singles. The Hilltoppers'
Gemma Cliffe and the Crimson Hawks' Karolin Kirchtag locked horns in the match of the day at No. 1 singles, splitting the first two sets before Kirchtag prevailed in a tiebreaker.
The Black and Gold will close out the regular season schedule at home on Sunday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan in a 2 p.m. match at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
