FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team picked up a couple of singles wins here Friday but that wasn't enough to turn the tide in a 5-2 loss at regionally-ranked Fairmont State.
Coach Ronnie Hulewicz's Hilltoppers opened singles play in a 1-0 hole after being swept in the three doubles matches to surrender the doubles point.
Zarion Jones rolled to a 6-4 6-2 straight-set win against the Falcons' Austin Noel at No. 6 singles and
Anton Schulz won a second-set tiebreaker to complete a straight set win at No. 2 singles but no other WLU netter could break through and the hosts prevailed.
The Hilltoppers head back out on the road Sunday for a 2 p.m. match at the University of Charleston.
