HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The unbeaten West Liberty University women's tennis team stayed perfect here Saturday morning with a 6-1 win against Warner (Fla.) University in the opening match of the Black and Gold's Spring Break series at Myrtle Beach.
Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (5-0) swept the doubles matches in convincing fashion to earn the doubles point and then took five of the six singles matches to finish off the win.
Nathalia Valencia and
Raissa Wagner pulled out tiebreaker wins at No. 1 and 3 singles, respectively, to help WLU take control of the match.
Gemma Cliffe had a straight-set win at No. 2 singles while
Luisa Agudelo (No. 5 singles) and
Anita Ponti (No. 6 singles) also posted straight-set wins to set the final margin.
Cliffe and Wagner teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles with Valencia and Ponti taking a 6-3 nod at No. 2 doubles. Agudelo and
Carleyah McLean breezed to a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Lady Hilltoppers return to action on Sunday with a 3:15 p.m. match against Edinboro (Pa.).
