HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team finished off its Spring Break trip with a flourish here Wednesday afternoon, picking up a couple of clutch tiebreaker wins in singles play to hand Georgetown (Ky.) a 5-2 loss on the final day of the Spring Tennis Festival at Hilton Head.
Coach
Heather Gallagher's regionally-ranked Hilltoppers (8-1) took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles and got off to a strong start in singles with straight-set wins from
Raissa Wagner at No. 3 singles and
Luisa Agudelo at No. 5 singles.
The Tigers (8-4) got back in the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles and trailed just 3-2 as the final two matches at No. 2 and No. 4 singles went into tiebreakers.
Any hopes of a Georgetown comeback win were dashed when West Liberty's Nathalia Valencia and
Carleyah McLean each prevailed in their tiebreaker to lock up the win for the Black and Gold.
The Lady Hilltoppers won't return to the court until March 17 when they head to Indiana (Pa.) for a key Atlantic Region test.
