2019 Dave Labor Invitational Results
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Freshman
Kelsi Hulit and senior
Dominique Hudson set school records in the discus here Saturday as the West Liberty men's and women's track teams competed in Slippery Rock University's annual Dave Labor Invitational.
Coach
Justin Simpson's Hilltoppers were one of 26 schools from the three NCAA divisions, the NAIA and junior-college ranks taking part in the mammoth meet featuring more than 1,500 competitors and the WLU head man was pleased with what he saw.
"We took a smaller group up there this weekend and had some pretty solid results," Simpson said. "Dominique broke his own school record in the discus with the best throw in the MEC this spring and Kelsi, who is just a freshman, broke a women's record that had stood for more than 15 years.
"
Isaiah Robinson won the triple-jump again, we had several more athletes post PRs and wrapped everything up with the fastest 4x4 (4x400 relay) since I've been here. It was another good day for West Liberty track."
Hudson won the discus event with a throw of 162-3 (49.46m). That was nearly a foot better than his previous school standard – set just two weeks ago – and mere inches shy of an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark. Hudson also was runner-up in the shot with a strong effort of 52-6.26.
Hulit, who also plays basketball at West Liberty, launched a throw of 137-8 (41.96m) in the discus that was one of the top 10 efforts in the region this spring and second-best in the MEC. It also erased the previous record of 137-5, which had been set by Patrice King back in 2003.
Amy Rine placed in two events for the Hilltoppers, coming in seventh in the shot and eighth in the discus.
Sydney Jefferys was fifth in the discus and
Hannah Phillips picked up a seventh-place finish in the high jump.
On the men's side, Robinson continued his strong spring with another win in the triple jump while
Quamaezius Mosby took third in the long jump with an effort of 21-5.25 (6.53m) that ranks fourth in the MEC this spring.
Both relay teams placed with the 4x400 squad taking third at 3:24.08 and the 4x100 quartet getting fourth place at 44.26 while Corey Wyttenbach was seventh in the high jump and
Ethan Secrist picked up an eighth-place finish in the 110 hurdles.
