MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –
Dominique Hudson and
Kelsi Hulit broke their own school records here Saturday as a few members of the West Liberty University track team competed in the State Farm Friends of Track and Field Mountaineer Showcase at the WVU Track and Field Complex in Mylan Park.
This was the Hilltoppers' final tune-up for the Mountain East Conference championships, which is set for May 5-7 at Morris Stadium on the campus of Glenville State College.
Hulit, a freshman who also plays basketball at West Liberty, established herself as a serious contender for conference honors in the field events with a discus throw of 144 feet, 5 inches (44.03m). That shattered her previous school record set earlier this month by nearly 7 feet and stands as one of the top 10 throws in the Atlantic Region this spring.
Hudson, a senior All-MEC standout who has spent his final season rewriting the WLU record book, pushed his own discus mark a little further down the line with a throw of 162 feet, 6 inches (49.52m) - best in the MEC this spring.
Also popping up high on the MEC leaderboard were Corey Wyttenbach and
Dylan Marling.
Wyttenbach, a junior from Martinsburg, W.Va., cleared 6 feet, 3.25 inches in the high jump, which ranks No. 2 in the MEC this spring.
Marling, a junior from Bellaire, Ohio, had a pole vault of 11 feet, 11.75 inches, which ranks among the Top 5 in the MEC.
