Hilltoppers Continue Strong Showing on Day Two of MEC Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's and women's track & field teams continued competition Monday at the Mountain East Conference Championships, turning in several strong performances and adding valuable points on day two of the meet.

Through multiple events scored, the Hilltopper men sit sixth overall with 21 points, while the women are currently seventh with 23 points heading into the final day of competition.

The West Liberty men were led by a standout showing in the decathlon, where freshman Seth Wisman delivered a strong all-around performance. Wisman placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 16.03 and added event wins in both the discus (37.58m) and javelin (45.95m). Teammate Reese Burnside also contributed with a third-place finish in the 110m hurdles and a victory in the pole vault (3.95m), while adding a personal-best mark in the javelin.

Malachi Stewart and Burnside added points in the 1500m to close out the decathlon events, with Stewart finishing third and Wisman placing fourth.

In field events, Mason Fraley scored for the Hilltoppers with an eighth-place finish in the shot put, while Isaah Beard (6th) and Talan Ramsay (8th) both earned points in the long jump.

On the women's side, Marissa Scott highlighted the day by qualifying for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.68, while also placing fourth in the pole vault with a personal-best clearance of 2.85m.

West Liberty also saw multiple athletes advance to finals on the track. Freshman Dominic Gianangeli qualified for the men's 400m final with a time of 49.78, while Zachary Workman and Francis Toohey both advanced in the 800m.

The Hilltopper women had a strong showing in the sprint events, with Ky'Ara Ross (12.16) and Sierra Lanham (12.29) both qualifying for the finals in the 100m. In the 400m, Sasha Hunter (58.67) and Hannah Rowan (59.24) each advanced to the final.

Additional scoring performances came from Ky'Ara Ross, who placed fourth in the long jump (5.56m), Sierra Davis with a fourth-place finish in the shot put, and Sierra Lanham, who added points with a seventh-place finish in the high jump.

West Liberty will look to carry that momentum into Tuesday's final day of competition as the Hilltoppers aim to climb the team standings at the MEC Championships.
