HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team remained undefeated here Monday with a 5-2 victory against Warner (Fla.) at the PTR Spring Tennis Fest.
Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (5-0) took two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point before winning four of the six singles matches to finish off the Royals (5-7).
West Liberty's No. 3 doubles tandem of
Carleyah McLean and
Luisa Agudelo coasted to a 6-2 win in their match and the No. 2 doubles pairing of
Raissa Wagner and
Anita Ponti secured the doubles point with a hard-fought 7-5 win.
The Hilltoppers got straight-set wins from McLean,
Laura Huwe and
Luisa Agudelo in singles play while Ponti outdueled Warner's Marla Montoya in the match of the day at No. 3 singles, prevailing in an 11-9 tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets.
The West Liberty women return to the South Carolina resort's courts on Tuesday for an 8:30 a.m. match against Edinboro (Pa.).
