GREENSBURG, Pa. – Senior
Laura Huwe pulled out a three-set win at No. 3 singles here Sunday to snap a 3-3 deadlock and give the West Liberty University women's tennis team a 4-3 win against Seton Hill (Pa.) in non-conference action at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
It was the 10
th win of the season for Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (10-4) while the host Griffins (5-9) lost for the fifth time in their last six outings.
West Liberty grabbed an early upper hand with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to claim the doubles point.
Carleyah McLean and
Luisa Agudelo prevailed by a 6-4 count at the No. 2 spot while Huwe and Alex Olson rolled to a 6-2 decision in their No. 3 doubles match.
The hosts fought their way back into the match with a trio of straight-set wins in singles play. McLean and Agudelo claimed straight-set wins for the Black and Gold at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, to forge the 3-3 tie.
Huwe and Seton Hill's Madison DeBone had traded 6-3 wins in the first two sets of what would now be a decisive No. 3 singles match but, with both teams looking on, Huwe dominated the final set and cruised to a 6-1 win.
The West Liberty women return to Mountain East Conference play on Wednesday when they host Shepherd in an afternoon match at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
