HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team opened its run at the PTR Spring Tennis Fest on Sunday with a 6-0 shutout of Drew (N.J.).
Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (4-0) won all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and then rolled through singles play without losing a single set to the Rangers (2-4).
The No. 1 doubles team of
Chloe Riley and
Laura Huwe got things started with a 6-1 romp before
Raissa Wagner and
Anita Ponti teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Carleyah McLean and Alex Olson completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 victory.
Riley, Ponti, Huwe, Olson and
Luisa Agudelo posted dominant straight-set wins in singles play to finish off the match. Wagner's No. 1 singles match was halted in progress due to rain.
The WLU women return to the courts on Monday against Wagner (Fla.).
