WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team came out on the short end of a 5-2 score here Thursday afternoon in a non-conference match against Indiana (Pa.) at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (8-4) got off to a slow start as the Crimson Hawks (5-5) swept all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point.
West Liberty was able to pull out a couple tiebreaker wins in singles play but it wasn't enough to keep IUP from takin the match.
Carleyah McLean came from behind to beat the visitors' Thais Andreotti at No. 4 singles. McLean rebounded from a 6-2 loss in the opening set to square the match in a second-set tiebreaker before dominating the superbreaker, 10-4, for the win.
The Hilltoppers'
Luisa Agudelo split a pair of tight decisions in the first two sets of her No. 5 singles tilt against Mariana Valenzuela and neither player backed down in a marathon superbreaker. Agudelo finally outlasted Valenzuela by a 12-10 count to earn the decision.
The West Liberty women return to Mountain East Conference action on Friday when they head to Mayfield Village, Ohio for a 5 p.m. match against Notre Dame at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club.
