2019 Charlotte 49er Classic Results
CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
Dominique Hudson moved into the Top 10 nationally in the shot put as the West Liberty University men's and women's track teams made their presence felt at the prestigious 49er Classic hosted by the University of Charlotte at the Irwin Belk Track Center.
Hudson, a 6-2, 315-pound senior from Odenton, Md. who had set the school record of 53 feet, 4.5 inches earlier this month in winning the UC Invitational, blew that mark out of the water by more than two feet during Saturday's competition.
The Hilltopper veteran's throw of 55 feet, 6.5 inches (16.93m) was the best by a Division II athlete in the meet and ranks No. 7 nationally among all NCAA Division II throwers.
"I was pretty pleased with how we competed in Charlotte," head coach
Justin Simpson said. "Along with Dom's school record, we had a lot of men and women posting (personal records) and moving up to or near the top of the (Mountain East) conference leaders."
West Liberty also fared well on the track this weekend.
Michael Harriman and Danah Philips each posted times in the 800 and 1500 meters that rank among the top 10 in the MEC this spring while Phil White's 15:33.08 clocking in the 5000 meters is third-best in the MEC to date.
Jared Ullom and
Bryce Childers cracked the MEC's Top 5 in the 10000 meters with both runners' times also putting them among the Top 30 nationally.
On the women's side,
Emily Louk continued her strong spring with times of 2:26.45 in the 800 and 5:06.59 in the 1500 – both ranking No. 1 in the MEC at this point.
Hannah Ramirez's 12:35.08 in the 3000 steeplechase is second in the MEC and third in the region while
Kelsi Hulit and
Ashley Reynolds moved into the MEC's top 5 in the shot put rankings.
The WLU track teams return to action on Friday when they head to Buckhannon, W.Va. to compete in the Bobcat Classic hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan.
