Lady Hilltoppers Battle Edinboro to the Wire

Women's Tennis | 4/5/2018 9:36:00 PM

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The regionally-ranked West Liberty University women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision to Edinboro here Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
Coach Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (12-6), who checked in at No. 6 in this week's NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings, took two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead over the Fighting Scots (7-8) heading into singles play.
Lisa Nachtwey rolled to a 6-0 6-0 win at No. 6 singles for West Liberty and a straight-set win by Thais Mendez at No. 1 singles left the hosts just one win away from sealing the match.
Edinboro closed the gap to 4-2 with a straight-set win at No. 2 singles and followed that up with straight-set wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles to forge a 4-4 tie.
The Fighting Scots' Marija Tmusic took the first set of her No. 5 singles match against WLU's Alaina Pauley but Pauley squared the match with a 6-4 nod in the second set only to see Tmusic pull out a 6-3 win in the third set to close things out.
The Lady Hilltoppers will be idle until April 17 when they hit the road for a non-conference match at Ashland.
