Bumgardner Breaks Own Record in Marietta

Women's Track and Field | 4/22/2018 11:39:00 AM

MARIETTA, Ohio – Tamara Bumgardner broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles here Saturday as the West Liberty University track squads wrapped up regular-season action in the Don Frail Invitational at Don Drumm Stadium on the campus of Marietta College.
"I'm really excited about the growth I've seen from our team from our first indoor meet and carrying into the spring," head coach Justin Simpson said. "This was our final tuneup before the conference championships and we'll be spending the next couple of weeks preparing to compete at a very high level in that meet."
Bumgardner, a sophomore from Wheeling Park High School, had run a school-record 16.04 a week ago in the Jasmine Claggett Memorial hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan but lowered that mark significantly on Saturday when she crossed the line in 15.89 at Marietta.
The Hilltopper men's team was competing with a skeleton crew as many of West Liberty's top field athletes, who serve double-duty on the WLU football team, were at West Family Stadium on Saturday for the annual Black and Gold scrimmage.
It will be all hands on deck for the West Liberty men and women May 6-8 when Coach Simpson and his crew head to Buckhannon to compete in the MEC Championship Meet.
