West Liberty Mourns Passing of Basketball Great

Men's Basketball | 8/11/2017 8:21:00 PM

The entire West Liberty University community is mourning the loss of former Hilltopper basketball great Shane Maynard, who passed away in Florida on Aug. 4.
Here is a link to Shane's obituary from the Fayette Tribune: http://obituaries.fayettetribune.com/story/shane-maynard-1985-2017-962883081
Maynard came to West Liberty after a stellar high school career at Beckley (W.Va.) Woodrow Wilson and quickly established himself as a fan favorite, averaging double-figures in each of his four seasons on the hilltop.
The 2005 West Virginia Conference Freshman of the Year earned multiple All-WVIAC and All-Region accolades and finished his career as the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,221 career points, breaking Spencer Johnson's 25-year-old mark of 2,137 points.
The Maynard family welcomes all those whose lives were touched by Shane to share memories with them at the Woodrow Wilson High School auditorium in Beckley on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. A memorial service will follow immediately afterward.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Beckley Basketball, c/o Ron Kidd, Woodrow Wilson High School, 400 Stanaford Rd., Beckley, WV 25801; The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, c/o Mike White, PO Box 840., Beckley, WV 25802; and First Baptist Church of Beckley, 422 Neville St., Beckley, WV 25801.
