West Liberty Baseball Sweeps Charleston

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team swept a Mountain East Conference doubleheader from the University of Charleston Saturday night at Triana Field.
Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (14-6, 9-1) handed the Golden Eagles (16-9, 4-6) a 2-0 loss in the opener behind a one-hit shutout from Sean Pare before Bub Haddox's two-out, two-run double in the top of the 10th lifted the Black and Gold to a 6-4 extra-inning win in the nightcap.
Pare was in control from the start in the first game, striking out four and giving up just two walks.
The WLU standout lost his no-hit bid with two out in the bottom of the sixth when Charleston's Gianfranco Morello beat out a bunt single but that was all the damage UC could muster.
Alex Rojas broke up a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the top of the fourth and Justice Jackson drove in the other run on a fielder's choice.
The second game was a scheduled 9-inning contest but that wasn't enough to settle matters in the see-saw affair.
The Golden Eagles overcame an early 2-0 Hilltopper lead with three runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to take a 4-2 advantage into the seventh frame.
West Liberty scratched out a pair of unearned runs to knot the score at 4-4 and the teams traded zeros until Haddox's clutch two-bagger in the top of the 10th.
Parker Dyson got the win on the hill with four innings of no-hit relief, striking out four and walking three.
Mike Adams had two singles and drove in a run while Jackson singled twice and scored a run. Ethan Estes added a double and an RBI with Yale Hughes contributing a single and knocking in a run.
Now tied with Shepherd for first place in the MEC North, the Hilltoppers will remain in Kanawha County on Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at West Virginia State.
