Hilltoppers Steamroll Past W.Va. Wesleyan

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team hammered out a sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan here Tuesday in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Hank Ellis Field.
Coach Eric Burkle's hard-hitting Hilltoppers (9-5, 4-0) rolled to an 18-5 victory in the first game before coasting past the Bobcats (3-13, 2-2) by a 6-3 score in the finale.
After grabbing a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opener, West Liberty exploded for 10 runs on 10 hits in the second inning to open up an insurmountable 12-0 gap and never looked back as they pounded out a season-high 21 hits.
Every WLU starter had at least one base knock. Coby Eckstein led the way with four singles and an RBI while Bub Haddox knocked in two runs with a triple and a single. Justice Jackson collected two RBIs with a double and a single with Yale Hughes and Tyler Ramsay each picking up two singles and two RBIs.
Mike Adams singled twice, Ethan Estes had a single and drove in three runs and Alex Rojas weighed in with an RBI base knock.
Yale Hughes hurled seven shutout innings for the win in the second game and the Hilltopper bats held up their end of the bargain with 10 more hits to complete the sweep.
Ramsay led the way with a double and two singles while Estes drove in two runs with a home run and a single. Chad Matthus collected a pair of hits and an RBI while Haddox doubled home a run and Jackson had an RBI single.
West Liberty returns to action on Saturday when the Hilltoppers host Concord in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Kovalick Field.
