Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's basketball team went ice cold after a hot start here Wednesday and Charleston pulled away to an 82-55 win in the first round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament.
Coach
Lynn Ullom's Hilltoppers (9-20) knocked down five of their first seven 3-point attempts in the first 10 minutes to take a 23-22 lead at the end of the first quarter only to see the lid clamp down on the basket at the Civic Center Coliseum.
West Liberty made just two shots from the floor in the entire second quarter and missed all 10 of its 3-point tries and the Golden Eagles (11-18) took a 33-28 lead into the locker room at intermission.
Charleston's advantage hit double-digits for the first time midway through the third quarter when a Jordyn Peck 3-pointer gave UC a 45-34 lead with 4:19 remaining in the frame.
The Hilltoppers responded with a quick 9-0 burst, cutting the deficit to 45-43 on a driving layup by
Grace Fodor with 2:39 on the clock but the Black and Gold couldn't get over the hump.
The Golden Eagles closed out the frame with a 9-0 run of their own for a 54-43 lead at the break and when West Liberty's shooting woes returned in the fourth quarter, the game was gone.
After hitting five of their first seven attempts from behind the arc, the Hilltoppers made just two of their last 24 3-point tries as their season came to an end.
Fodor had a strong game off the bench, scoring a career-high 14 points and notching her first career double-double with a team-high 10 rebounds.

Johnie Olkosky and
Marissa Brown each finished with 10 points.
Peck and Abby Watson tied for game scoring honors with 22 points each for Charleston while Anna Hayton added 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles move on to play regular-season champion Glenville State (24-4) in Thursday's 6 p.m. quarterfinal.
