Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – Turnovers and a poor shooting night proved too much for the West Liberty University women's basketball team to overcome here Thursday night as Concord pulled away to an 81-54 victory at the Carter Center.
Coach
Lynn Ullom's Hilltoppers (7-16, 6-11) held several leads in the first quarter but a second-quarter surge helped the Mountain Lions (6-16, 4-13) open up a 29-22 advantage midway through the frame.
Emily Bucon cut the lead to 29-25 with a 3-pointer at the 4:55 mark but a series of West Liberty turnovers keyed a 14-1 Concord surge that sent the hosts into the locker room with a 43-26 halftime lead.
Halftime stats showed the Mountain Lions with a whopping 23-2 edge in points off turnovers as WLU was charted with 15 turnovers in the first 20 minutes to just four from the hosts.
Concord stretched the advantage to 61-34 after three quarters and led by as many as 30 points down the stretch as WLU simply couldn't make enough shots to get back in the game.
The Black and Gold finished the night shooting just 33 percent (17-of-52) from the floor and 24 percent (6-of-25) from the 3-point arc.
