Ohio Dominican Takes Pair From Hilltoppers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The West Liberty University baseball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to Ohio Dominican Sunday afternoon at VA Memorial Stadium.
Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (4-4) came up short by a 9-5 tally in the opener before seeing the host Panthers (3-0) complete the sweep with a 7-6 come-from-behind victory in the finale.
In the first game, Ohio Dominican pushed three runs across in the bottom of the first and never trailed. Nolan Marcus led WLU's 12-hit attack with three singles while Ramsay drove in a run with a triple and single. Ethan Estes added two singles and an RBI, Yale Hughes doubled home a run and Bub Haddox had a single and an RBI.
West Liberty spotted the Panthers an early 4-0 lead in the second game but Nolan Ramsay got the Hilltoppers on the board with an RBI single in the top of the fifth and the Black and Gold bats got down to business in the sixth.
Coby Eckstein drove in two runs with a bases-loaded double to cut the lead to 4-3 and Ramsay followed with a 3-run blast over the left field fence to put West Liberty on top, 6-4.
Reliever Tory Fuscardo pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the sixth, striking out ODU's Colin Kaucher with two out and the bases loaded to preserve the 6-4 lead but the Panthers mounted another threat in the bottom of the seventh.
After Fuscardo retired the leadoff batter, a single and a walk put the tying runs on base and Chris Sackett cranked a 3-run home run over the left-centerfield fence to keep Ohio Dominican undefeated on the young season.
The Hilltoppers will try to get back on the winning track Friday afternoon when they host Ohio Valley University in a 3 p.m. game at Consol Energy Park in Washington, Pa.
