WLU Baseball Pounds Out Another Win

Box Score MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The regionally-ranked West Liberty University baseball team slugged its way to an 11-8 victory against Chowan University here Sunday afternoon in a scheduled 9-inning game at Hawkins Field.
The fourth win in five games on the season-opening southern road swing for Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (4-1) gave WLU a series win against the host Hawks (3-6) after the teams split a twinbill on Saturday.
Yale Hughes paced West Liberty's 13-hit barrage, driving in five runs with a single, triple and home run. Hughes' triple highlighted a five-run Hilltopper uprising in the fifth inning that put the visitors ahead to stay.
Tyler Ramsay had two singles and two RBIs while Coby Eckstein tripled, singled and drove in a run. Nolan Marcus doubled and scored three runs while Bailey McGrath chipped in with a two-out RBI single.
Cody Shook, the third of six West Liberty pitchers, picked up the win while Tory Fuscardo got the final six outs to earn the save.
The Hilltoppers return to action next weekend with a Saturday doubleheader and Sunday single game against Ohio Dominican at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio. Saturday's twinbill is slated for a 1 p.m. start with Sunday's game scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
