Box Score SALEM, W.Va. – The No. 19-ranked West Liberty University women's basketball team scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back here Wednesday night in rolling to a 84-53 victory against Salem International at the T. Ed Davis Gym.
It was the seventh straight win for Coach
Lynn Ullom's Hilltoppers (9-1) while the Tigers (2-9) saw their two-game win streak go by the boards.
West Liberty was in control from the start. Back-to-back 3-pointers from
Johnie Olkosky and
Liz Flowers opened up a 16-4 lead less than four minutes after the opening tip.
The Hilltoppers settled for a 23-13 advantage after one quarter and were in complete command, 43-22, by intermission. West Liberty led by as many as 33 points down the stretch before coasting across the finish line.
Senior post Kiki Simpson grabbed her 900th career rebound while posting her fifth double-double in the last six games with 13 points and 13 boards. Simpson, who leads the nation in field-goal percentage and ranks No. 3 nationally in blocked shots, went 6-for-8 from the floor and collected three more blocks.
It was a milestone night for Flowers, as well. The senior guard had five 3-pointers, including the 200th bonus bomb of her career, and led all scorers with a game-high 23 points. Freshman
Brandi Beader came off the bench to join the double-figure party with 11 points.
Keishla Gilmore paced Salem International with 13 points while TaShay Smith and Samantha Aiken finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Hilltoppers will be idle over the holidays but return to action on Jan. 4 when they host West Virginia State. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at the ASRC.
